About Claude
Your AI colleague.
Claude is an AI assistant built by Anthropic — designed to read, write, reason, and act. Unlike a search engine, Claude understands context, follows standing instructions, and produces complete, usable outputs. You communicate with it the way you would brief a capable colleague — in plain language, with as much or as little detail as you have.
“There is no wrong way to start. If you can write an email, you can use Claude — and within one week, it will feel indispensable.”

What it is
Chat is the core of Claude — a conversational interface where you type a question, request, or task and Claude responds instantly. Think of it as a highly capable colleague available 24/7 who never gets tired, never judges your question, and always has time for you.
What it does
You talk to Claude the way you would talk to a person. Ask questions, give instructions, think out loud, or say "help me write this." Claude reads what you type, understands the context, and responds. You can then reply, correct it, or go deeper. It remembers everything said within that session.
How to use it — Step by step
- Go to claude.ai or open the Claude desktop application
- Type your question or task in the message box at the bottom of the screen
- Press Enter or click the send button
- Read Claude's response — then reply, ask for changes, or go deeper
- There is no limit to how long the conversation can go within a session
Department Use Cases — See it in your context
HR
A staff member at Raffles Jakarta raises a welfare concern. Ask Chat: "Help me draft a response acknowledging a staff welfare concern without making promises I can't keep." Claude drafts a compassionate, measured reply in seconds.
Finance
Before a budget review, ask: "What questions might the CEO ask about a 15% increase in operational costs?" Claude helps you prepare the right answers before you walk into the room.
IT
A staff member submits a vague ticket — "my email isn't working." Ask: "What are the most likely causes of Outlook not syncing on Windows 11 and what should I ask the user first?" Claude returns a structured diagnostic checklist.
▶ YOUR TASK
Open Claude right now and type one real task you have been putting off this week. Do not overthink it — type it the way you would say it to a colleague and see what comes back.
“There is no wrong way to start. No special commands, no technical knowledge required. If you can type an email, you can use Claude.”
What it is
Projects are dedicated workspaces inside Claude where you can organise all your conversations, files, and instructions around a specific piece of work. Instead of starting fresh every time, Claude remembers the context of everything in that project — permanently.
What it does
Inside a Project, you can upload documents, set standing instructions, and have multiple conversations — all connected. Claude always knows the background. You do not have to re-explain who you are, what you are working on, or what the rules are every time you open a new chat.
How to use it — Step by step
- In Claude, click "New Project" in the left sidebar
- Give the project a clear name (e.g., "Q3 Budget Review" or "Vendor Contract — Campus Fit-Out")
- Add a project instruction: tell Claude what this project is about and any standing rules
- Upload relevant documents — Claude will read and reference them in every conversation
- Start a conversation inside the project — Claude already knows everything you've added
Department Use Cases — See it in your context
Legal
Create a Project for a vendor negotiation. Upload the contract and set a standing instruction: "We follow Singapore law. Flag any clause that limits our liability or removes our right to terminate." Every conversation in the project runs with that context active — no re-briefing required.
Operations
Managing a facilities upgrade across three campuses? Create a Project, upload the scope and timeline, and add: "Always frame updates with cross-campus impact across Raffles Singapore, Raffles KL, and Raffles Jakarta." Every output reflects all three campuses automatically.
Management
Create a Project for your quarterly reporting cycle. Upload last quarter's report and the KPI framework. Each time you need a new section drafted, Claude already knows the full picture — targets, prior results, and your reporting style.
▶ YOUR TASK
Create your first Project now. Name it after one piece of ongoing work you return to regularly, write one standing instruction that Claude should always follow in that project, and upload one relevant document.
“Regular Chat forgets everything when the session ends. Projects remember everything you have added — files, instructions, and context — until you remove them.”
What prompting is — and why it matters
A prompt is the instruction you give Claude. The quality of what Claude produces depends almost entirely on the quality of what you ask. Prompting is the skill of writing clear, structured instructions that get you the output you actually need — first time.
Good prompting removes ambiguity. Instead of Claude guessing what you want, a well-structured prompt tells it your role, the task, the context, the audience, and the format — so the response is precise, relevant, and usable.
Four Prompt Frameworks
RTF – Role · Task · Format
The simplest framework. Tell Claude what role to play, what to do, and how to present the output.
"You are an IT support specialist. Write a response to a staff member whose laptop won't connect to Wi-Fi. Format: short, friendly email."
COSTAR – Context · Objective · Style · Tone · Audience · Response
For formal communications, reports, and leadership-facing content where precision matters.
"Context: new HR system rollout. Objective: announce it. Style: clear. Tone: reassuring. Audience: non-technical staff. Response: 200-word email."
RISEN – Role · Instructions · Steps · End Goal · Narrowing
Best for multi-step tasks where Claude must follow a specific process and stay within defined limits.
"Role: legal reviewer. Instructions: review vendor agreement. Steps: liability clauses then termination then summary. End goal: risk brief. Narrowing: Singapore law only."
Chain of Thought – Reason step by step before answering
For complex or analytical tasks — instruct Claude to reason through the problem before giving a final answer.
"Three campus finance teams submitted budget requests 22% over the approved group budget. Think through this step by step — causes, options, and risks — before your recommendation."
Department Use Cases — See it in your context
HR
Using COSTAR: "Context: Raffles is updating the annual leave policy for Singapore-based staff. Objective: Communicate the change. Tone: Empathetic — some staff will be unhappy. Audience: All Singapore campus staff. Response: A 250-word internal announcement."
DevOps
Using Chain of Thought after a system outage: "Our staging environment went down for 3 hours during a deployment. Think step by step — causes, what to check first, and process changes to prevent recurrence — before giving your answer."
Operations
Using RTF for a vendor escalation: "You are a campus operations manager at an international education group. Write a firm but professional escalation email to a vendor who has missed two delivery deadlines. Format as a formal email."
▶ YOUR TASK
Take a task you need done today and write two prompts — one the way you would normally type it, and one using the RTF framework. Submit both to Claude and compare the outputs side by side. Note the difference in precision and usefulness.
“Claude is not a search engine. Do not type keywords. Write to it the way you would brief a smart, capable colleague who is new to your organisation.”
What it is
Artifacts are live, visual outputs that Claude generates and displays directly alongside your conversation. Instead of just giving you text, Claude builds something you can see, interact with, and use immediately — a table, a chart, a form, a dashboard, a document, or a webpage.
What it does
When you ask Claude to create something visual or structured, it renders it in a dedicated panel next to the chat. You can view it, copy it, download it, or ask Claude to revise it — all without leaving the conversation. No design tools, no coding, no formatting from scratch.
How to use it — Step by step
- In any chat, ask Claude to "build", "create", or "design" something visual
- Be specific: "Build a table with columns for Vendor, Campus, Status, and Due Date"
- The Artifact appears in a side panel — view it alongside the conversation
- Ask for changes by typing in chat: "Add a Priority column" or "Change the heading colour"
- Download or copy the Artifact using the buttons at the top of the panel
Department Use Cases — See it in your context
Finance
"Build me a table comparing the submitted budget requests from Raffles Singapore, Raffles KL, and Raffles Jakarta against the approved group budget. Highlight which campuses are over." Claude generates a clean, formatted table as an Artifact — ready to copy into a report.
Operations
"Create a vendor tracking table for our campus facilities rollout. Columns: Vendor Name, Campus, Service, Contract Start, Contract End, Status, and Notes." Claude builds it instantly as a formatted, downloadable table Artifact.
Management
"Build a one-page HTML executive summary layout for our Q2 campus performance review. Include sections for enrolment, revenue, key issues, and next steps." Claude produces a formatted, branded-ready page as a downloadable Artifact.
▶ YOUR TASK
Ask Claude to build a table or tracker you currently maintain manually — a vendor list, a leave log, a project status sheet. Once it appears, ask Claude to add one more column or change one element. See how quickly it updates.
“If your output has a visual form — a table, a tracker, a report layout, a form — ask Claude to build it as an Artifact.”

What it is
Cowork is Claude's desktop application — a version of Claude that lives on your computer and works directly with your files, folders, and local systems. It is the most powerful way to use Claude for day-to-day professional work because it connects Claude to your actual working environment.
What it does
In Cowork, Claude can read, write, and edit files on your computer. You connect a folder — your workspace — and Claude works inside it. It can open documents, save outputs, maintain a memory of who you are, and run automated tasks. Everything you build in Cowork persists across every session.
How to use it — Step by step
- Download and install the Claude desktop application from claude.ai/download
- Open Cowork mode from the application
- Select a folder on your computer as your workspace — this is where Claude will work
- Run the Raffles onboarding (/raffles-onboard) to set up your CLAUDE.md, workstations, and skills
- From that point, every session starts with Claude already knowing who you are and how you work
Department Use Cases — See it in your context
HR
Set up a Recruitment HQ workstation with standing instructions: "All job descriptions must reflect Raffles' SPACE values and use British English. Never use the word teachers — use Creative Practitioners." Every JD Claude produces follows those rules automatically, every session.
Legal
Ask Claude to review a contract and save the risk summary directly to your Contracts HQ folder as a Word document. Claude reads the file, produces the output, and saves it — no copying, pasting, or reformatting required.
IT
Use Cowork for a recurring task: every Monday morning, Claude reads the open support tickets in your Support HQ folder and produces a prioritised summary ready for your morning standup — without you typing a single command.
▶ YOUR TASK
Select your workspace folder in Cowork and open your CLAUDE.md file. Read it through, then update one line to reflect something Claude should know about how you work. Start a new chat and notice how Claude's response already reflects that change.
“The web version of Claude starts fresh each session. Cowork is a working environment that grows with you — it remembers your role, your voice, your workstations, and your rules across every session.”
What it is
Skills are installable capability packs that extend what Claude can do inside Cowork. With the right Skills installed, Claude becomes a specialist — one that can build Excel models, create Word documents, design presentations, generate PDFs, and more, all to professional standard.
What it does
Each Skill gives Claude deep, domain-specific capability for a particular type of output. When you ask Claude to produce something that requires a Skill, it follows a structured, expert-level process — producing a properly formatted, ready-to-use file, not just text on a screen.
How to use it — Step by step
- In Cowork, click Customize in the bottom-left sidebar
- Click Skills, then Upload Skill
- Select the .skill file for the capability you want to install
- Click Confirm — the skill is now active in all your conversations
- Download skill files from the Raffles Skills folder on SharePoint (link provided during onboarding)
Department Use Cases — See it in your context
Finance
With docx installed: "Build me the September campus financial summary as a Word document. Include an executive summary, a revenue vs budget table, and a key variances section." Claude produces a properly formatted .docx file — headings, tables, and page layout all correct, ready to send.
Operations
With xlsx installed: "Create a vendor comparison spreadsheet for our three shortlisted facilities vendors. Columns: Vendor, Scope, Price, Contract Length, Key Risks, and a weighted score column." Claude builds a clean, formula-ready Excel file.
DevOps
With frontend-design installed: "Build an internal HTML dashboard showing the status of our core systems — SharePoint, Teams, email, and the student portal. Use the Raffles brand colours." Claude designs and builds a complete, live HTML page.
▶ YOUR TASK
Install one Skill from your department's list right now. Then ask Claude to produce a document that requires that Skill — a Word report, an Excel spreadsheet, or a PDF. Open the file it produces and compare it to what plain text would have given you.
“Claude without Skills is a brilliant generalist. Claude with the right Skills installed is a trained specialist in your exact type of work.”
What it is
Live Artifacts are persistent, interactive pages that Claude builds and saves — pages you can open again and again, and that pull fresh data every time you do. Unlike a regular Artifact, a Live Artifact is a living page that stays current with your connected tools and data sources.
What it does
Claude builds the page once. Every time you open it, it fetches the latest data from your connected systems — email, calendar, SharePoint, project tools — and displays an up-to-date view. You do not need to ask Claude again. The page does it for you.
How to use it — Step by step
- Ask Claude: "Build me a live artifact that shows [what you want to see]"
- Specify the data source: "Pull from my SharePoint folder" or "Check my Outlook calendar"
- Claude builds the page and saves it — find it under Artifacts in the Cowork sidebar
- Open it any time — it fetches fresh data on load automatically
- Ask Claude to update or redesign it at any time by opening it and describing the change
Department Use Cases — See it in your context
Management
Build a Live Artifact that pulls the latest enrolment and revenue figures from your connected SharePoint reports. Every Monday you open one page and see a consolidated view of how all campuses are performing against targets — no emails to chase, no files to dig through.
HR
Build a Live Artifact showing active job openings, interview slots booked, and offers pending — across all campuses. One page replaces a manually updated spreadsheet that is always slightly out of date.
IT
Build a Live Artifact that checks the status of Raffles' core systems — SharePoint, Microsoft 365, email, and the student portal — each time it is opened. The IT team opens one page at the start of every shift instead of checking four systems manually.
▶ YOUR TASK
Think of one thing you check or compile manually every week. Ask Claude to build a Live Artifact for it — describe what you want to see, specify the data source, and let Claude build the page. Open it tomorrow and confirm the data has refreshed without you doing anything.
“A regular Artifact is a snapshot — built once, static after that. A Live Artifact is a dashboard — built once, always current. The difference between a printed report and a live screen on your wall.”
What it is
Scheduled Tasks let you set Claude to run a task automatically — at a time you choose, on a repeat you define. You set it up once, and Claude does the work at the right time without you having to remember, open Claude, or type anything.
What it does
You tell Claude what to do and when to do it. Claude runs the task at the scheduled time — whether you are at your desk or not — and delivers the output. It can pull data from connected tools, generate reports, draft summaries, or complete any repeating task you currently do manually.
How to use it — Step by step
- Tell Claude: "Every Monday at 7am, do [task]" — Claude sets up the schedule automatically
- Or say: "Remind me every Friday at 4pm to [task]"
- To see all active scheduled tasks, ask: "Show me my scheduled tasks"
- To cancel or change, say: "Stop the Monday briefing" or "Change the Friday digest to Thursday at 5pm"
- Scheduled tasks run in the background — outputs are saved to your workspace or delivered when you next open Claude
Department Use Cases — See it in your context
Operations
Schedule every Friday at 4pm: "Check the Vendor Comms HQ folder for any open vendor issues logged this week. Summarise them by campus, flag anything overdue, and save the summary." Every Friday the digest is ready before end of day — with no manual effort.
Finance
Schedule on the last working day of each month: "Draft the opening section of the monthly campus financial summary. Flag any line items more than 10% over budget and save a draft to the Reporting HQ folder for review." The first draft is always waiting.
Management
Schedule every Monday at 7am: "Pull the week's calendar appointments, flagged emails, and the active project list from Strategy HQ. Produce a one-page leadership brief for the week ahead." Leadership walks in on Monday morning with the week already mapped.
▶ YOUR TASK
Identify one task you do manually every week that follows the same pattern. Tell Claude: "Every [day] at [time], do [task]." Let Claude confirm the schedule. Your first automated task is now running — you will never have to trigger it manually again.
“If you do it regularly and it follows a pattern, it should be scheduled. Scheduled Tasks turn Claude from a tool you use when you remember into a system that works for you around the clock.”
What it is
Dispatch is Claude's ability to break a large, complex task into multiple workstreams and run them simultaneously — each handled by a dedicated sub-agent working in parallel. Instead of completing steps one after another, Claude orchestrates several agents at once, like a manager delegating to a team.
What it does
When you give Claude a multi-part task, Dispatch splits the work and runs each part concurrently. The results come back as a single unified output. What might take Claude several minutes done sequentially can be completed in a fraction of the time.
How to use it — Step by step
- Describe a multi-part task to Claude and it will recognise when Dispatch is appropriate
- Or explicitly say: "Run these three things in parallel" and list the tasks
- Claude assigns each task to a sub-agent, runs them simultaneously, and returns combined output
- Review the unified output — ask for changes to any section as you would in a normal conversation
- Dispatch works best in Cowork where Claude has access to your files and can save outputs directly
Department Use Cases — See it in your context
Legal
You have five vendor contracts to review ahead of a procurement decision. Dispatch sends each to a separate agent simultaneously. All five risk summaries come back together — in the time it would have taken to review one manually.
HR
Verify the updated leave policy is correctly reflected across all campus staff handbooks. Dispatch sends an agent to each campus folder simultaneously — checking and flagging discrepancies. One consolidated report covers all campuses at once.
DevOps
Need to document five internal systems before a compliance review. Dispatch assigns one agent per system — each reads technical notes, drafts the documentation section, and saves it. All five sections are assembled into one complete document.
▶ YOUR TASK
Give Claude a task that has at least three independent parts — a report with three sections, a review of three documents, or research on three topics. Watch how Dispatch handles them simultaneously and note how much faster the full output arrives compared to sequential processing.
“Dispatch is for scale. Use it when a task is too large, too multi-part, or too time-sensitive for a single linear conversation. It is the difference between asking one person to do everything and briefing a team.”
What it is
Connectors are integrations that link Claude directly to the tools and platforms Raffles already uses — Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, SharePoint, Outlook, Teams, and more. Once connected, Claude can read from and work with your live systems without you copying, pasting, or uploading anything.
What it does
With a Connector active, Claude reaches into your connected platform and pulls the information it needs in real time. It can read your emails, check your calendar, search SharePoint, pull documents from OneDrive, and more — then act on what it finds.
How to use it — Step by step
- In Cowork, click Customize then Connectors
- Select the platform you want to connect (e.g., Microsoft 365, Google Workspace)
- Authorise the connection — Claude will ask you to log in to confirm access
- Once connected, Claude automatically uses the connector when relevant to your request
- You can disconnect any connector at any time from the Connectors settings
Department Use Cases — See it in your context
Management
With Outlook connected: "Read my emails from the past five days. Identify anything requiring a decision from me, anything overdue, and anything from campus principals not yet responded to." Claude scans your actual inbox and produces a prioritised action list — not from what you paste in, but from the live mailbox.
Finance
With SharePoint connected: "Find the latest approved budget template for campus operating expenditure and pull the figures for Raffles Singapore and Raffles KL." Claude searches SharePoint, locates the document, and extracts the data — no folder navigation, no file hunting required.
Operations
With calendar and email connected: "I have a vendor review meeting tomorrow. Pull the agenda, find any related emails from that vendor in the last 30 days, and prepare a one-page brief." Claude combines your calendar, inbox, and documents into one ready-to-use brief.
▶ YOUR TASK
Connect one platform you use daily — Outlook, SharePoint, or Google Workspace. Then ask Claude a question that requires live information from that platform. Experience the difference between bringing data to Claude and Claude going to get it for you.
“Connectors eliminate the manual step. Without them, you bring data to Claude. With them, Claude goes and gets it.”
What it is
Plugins are installable bundles that extend Claude with a complete set of capabilities in one go. Where a Skill adds one specific capability, a Plugin adds an entire ecosystem — multiple skills, connectors, tools, and instructions — packaged together for a specific role or organisation.
What it does
You install a Plugin and Claude gains everything inside it at once. Plugins built for Raffles carry Raffles-specific knowledge, brand rules, and workflows baked in from the start. Every staff member who installs the Raffles Plugin starts with a Claude that already knows the organisation.
How to use it — Step by step
- In Cowork, click Customize then Plugins
- Search for the Raffles plugin or click Install from file if you have the .plugin file
- Confirm installation — Claude immediately gains all capabilities inside the plugin
- To see what a plugin contains, click on its name in the Plugins list
- Plugins can be updated by the organisation — Claude will prompt you when an update is available
Department Use Cases — See it in your context
HR
When a new HR team member joins, they install the Raffles Plugin. Claude immediately knows the brand, the SPACE values, the correct terminology (Creative Practitioners, not teachers), and the HR department workstations. Productive from session one — no setup, no briefing.
Legal
The Legal team installs the Raffles Plugin with raffles-legal and raffles-sgx included. Claude arrives pre-loaded with Raffles' legal document standards, SGX announcement formats, and the correct jurisdiction context for Singapore and Malaysia.
Management
Every campus management team installs the same Raffles Plugin. Whether drafting a report in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, or Jakarta, Claude applies the same brand voice, formatting standards, and organisational values — consistent across all 16 campuses.
▶ YOUR TASK
Install the Raffles Plugin if you have not done so already. Open a fresh chat and ask Claude something about Raffles — its values, its campuses, its brand voice. Notice what Claude already knows without you having told it anything. That is the Plugin at work.
“A Skill is a single tool. A Plugin is a toolkit. Installing a Skill is like adding one new application. Installing a Plugin is like setting up a fully configured workstation.”

What it is
Memory is Claude's built-in ability to remember facts, preferences, and context across conversations — at the account level. It is personal to you, always active, and grows over time as you use Claude.
What it does
When something important comes up in a conversation — a preference, a decision, a key fact — Claude can save it to Memory. The next time you open Claude, even in a completely new chat, it already knows. Memory persists indefinitely until you edit or delete it.
How to use it — Step by step
- Say "remember this" at any point and Claude saves the current context to Memory
- Say "remember that I prefer bullet points in all summaries" to add a specific preference
- Say "what do you remember about me?" to review everything Claude has saved
- Say "forget that" or "update your memory on this" to correct or remove anything
- In Cowork, Memory is saved to your MEMORY.md file — you can read and edit it directly at any time
Department Use Cases — See it in your context
HR
Tell Claude once: "Remember that when writing to staff about welfare matters, always lead with empathy before policy." Every future conversation — new chat, new session — Claude applies that rule without being reminded. It carries into every welfare email it helps draft.
Operations
"Remember that our primary vendor contacts for facilities are based in Malaysia and Indonesia, and emails to them should always be copied to the campus principal." Claude carries that into every vendor communication it helps draft — session after session.
Management
"Remember that I prefer executive summaries first, detailed analysis second, and that I always copy Chew Hua Seng on strategic communications." Claude applies these rules across every conversation and every session — you set it once, it works permanently.
▶ YOUR TASK
Tell Claude one thing about how you work — a writing preference, a standing rule, or a communication style. Then close the chat completely, open a brand new conversation, and ask Claude: "What do you remember about me?" See it recall your instruction from scratch.
“Projects remember context within a specific workspace. Memory remembers you — your preferences, your working style, your standing instructions — everywhere, across all conversations.”
What it is
Claude can read, analyse, and act on files you upload — PDFs, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, CSVs, images, and more. You upload the file and tell Claude what to do with it. Claude reads the full content and responds based on what is actually in the document.
What it does
Claude can summarise a document, extract specific data, compare two files, answer questions about the content, reformat information, spot inconsistencies, and produce new outputs based on what it reads. It handles documents the way a skilled analyst would — quickly, thoroughly, and without missing detail.
How to use it — Step by step
- Click the paperclip or attachment icon in the chat input bar
- Select the file — PDFs, Word docs, Excel files, images, and CSVs all work
- Type your instruction alongside the upload: "Summarise this", "Extract all figures", "What are the key risk clauses?"
- For multiple files, upload them together and ask Claude to compare or consolidate
- In Cowork, Claude can read files directly from your connected folder — no upload needed
Department Use Cases — See it in your context
Finance
Upload last quarter's campus revenue spreadsheet and ask: "Identify which campuses are more than 10% below their revenue target and summarise the shortfall for each." Claude reads the entire file and produces a precise, actionable summary — no manual filtering, no pivot tables required.
Legal
Upload two versions of a vendor agreement and ask: "What has changed between Version 1 and Version 2? Flag any changes to liability, payment terms, or termination rights." Claude reads both documents and produces a clear, structured change summary.
Management
Upload a 40-page campus performance report and ask: "Give me a one-page executive summary with the three most important findings and any items that require a decision." Claude distils the entire document into exactly what leadership needs — in under a minute.
▶ YOUR TASK
Upload a real document you are currently working with — a report, a policy, a contract. Ask Claude one specific question about its contents: a figure, a clause, a key finding. Then ask it to extract or reformat a section. See both reading and acting happen in one conversation.
“You do not need to copy and paste content into Claude. Upload the file directly and tell Claude what you need. It reads the whole thing.”
What it is
Vision is Claude's ability to analyse images and visual content. You share an image — a screenshot, a photograph, a scanned document, a chart, a diagram — and Claude describes, interprets, extracts, or acts on what it sees.
What it does
Claude reads visual content the way it reads text. It can describe what is in an image, extract text from a scanned document, interpret a chart or graph, identify issues in a screenshot, review a design, and answer questions about what it sees.
How to use it — Step by step
- Upload an image using the attachment icon — the same as uploading a document
- Paste a screenshot directly into the chat input bar on desktop
- Type your instruction: "What does this chart show?", "Extract the text from this scanned form", "What is wrong with this screenshot?"
- For multiple images, upload together and ask Claude to compare them
- Ask Claude to describe an image if you need alt text or an accessibility summary
Department Use Cases — See it in your context
IT
A staff member sends a screenshot of their error instead of describing it. Upload it and ask: "What is the error shown here and what are the likely causes?" Claude reads the screenshot and gives a structured troubleshooting response — no manual error code lookup needed by the support team.
Operations
A vendor sends a scanned PDF of a signed delivery receipt. Upload it and ask: "Extract the delivery date, items listed, and the authorising signature name." Claude reads the scanned image and pulls the exact information — no re-typing from a paper document.
Management
You receive a visual dashboard from a campus and need to include key figures in a report. Upload the chart image and ask: "What are the headline numbers and what trend do they show?" Claude reads the visual and translates it into text you can paste directly into the report.
▶ YOUR TASK
Take a screenshot of something on your screen right now — an error message, a dashboard, a chart, or a scanned document. Upload it to Claude and ask it to tell you what it shows or what action should be taken. Visual content is no longer a barrier between you and Claude's help.
“If you can see it, Claude can read it. Anything on a screen, on paper, or in a photograph is within reach.”
What it is
Web Search gives Claude the ability to search the internet in real time during your conversation. Instead of relying only on what you tell it, Claude goes out, finds current information, and uses it to answer your question or complete your task.
What it does
When you ask Claude something that requires up-to-date information — current regulations, recent news, live pricing, a competitor's latest announcement — Claude runs a web search, reads the relevant results, and incorporates what it finds into its response. Every answer comes with cited sources.
How to use it — Step by step
- Ask a question that requires current information — Claude searches automatically when current data is needed
- Explicitly trigger it: "Search the web for..." or "Find the latest information on..."
- Ask Claude to cite its sources and it will return the URLs it used
- Combine with document analysis: upload a policy and ask Claude to check if anything has changed since it was written
- In Cowork, Web Search is available in any conversation — no additional setup required
Department Use Cases — See it in your context
Legal
"Search for the current Singapore Employment Act provisions on fixed-term contract renewal limits." Claude searches, retrieves the current statutory position, and summarises it — a verified, up-to-date legal reference before any document is signed.
Finance
"Search for the current average salary range for a Finance Manager in Kuala Lumpur." Claude pulls current market data from live sources — no relying on outdated surveys when making compensation decisions.
DevOps
"Search for the latest known security vulnerabilities in Microsoft SharePoint Server 2019 and any available patches." Claude retrieves current advisories, giving your team real-time intelligence for patching decisions.
▶ YOUR TASK
Ask Claude a question whose answer depends on current information — a regulation, a competitor's pricing, or a market rate relevant to your work. Ask it to cite its sources. Read the citations and verify that the information is current. This is how you stay accurate on things that change.
“Use Web Search any time the answer could have changed recently. Regulations, market rates, vendor information, news, and policy updates all require current data. Web Search is how Claude stays accurate on things that move.”
What it is
Deep Research is Claude's advanced research capability — a mode where it conducts structured, multi-source investigation across the web, critically evaluates what it finds, and produces a comprehensive, cited report. It is a full research process, compressed into minutes.
What it does
Claude fans out across multiple sources simultaneously, cross-checks claims, discards unreliable information, and synthesises everything into a single, well-structured report with citations. It approaches the task the way a trained researcher would — looking for consensus and flagging contradictions.
How to use it — Step by step
- Trigger it by saying: "Do a deep research on..." or use the Deep Research option in the interface
- Be specific about scope: the more defined your question, the more focused the report
- Specify output format: "Produce a briefing note", "Give me a two-page summary", "Structure it as a report with an executive summary"
- Include constraints: "Focus on Southeast Asia only", "Limit to the last two years", "Cite all sources"
- Use the output as a first draft — review, validate key claims, and adapt before distributing
Department Use Cases — See it in your context
Management
"Do a deep research on the current landscape of private higher education in Southeast Asia — enrolment trends, regulatory shifts, and competitive pressures — and produce a two-page briefing note for senior leadership." Claude delivers a structured, cited brief in minutes.
HR
"Research current salary benchmarks for mid-level HR roles across Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia — include cost-of-living adjustments and recent market movements. Structure it as a compensation benchmarking report." Claude returns a fully structured report with cited sources.
Legal
"Research any changes to personal data protection legislation in Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia in the last 18 months that could affect how an education group manages student records. Cite all sources." Claude returns a regulatory brief covering all three jurisdictions.
▶ YOUR TASK
Choose one topic you have been meaning to research but have not had time for — a market trend, a regulatory update, a competitive landscape. Trigger Deep Research and let Claude produce the full report. Ask yourself: how long would this have taken you or your team to produce manually?
“Web Search answers a question using current data. Deep Research investigates a topic — producing a structured, verified, multi-source report that you can act on, share, or publish.”
What it is
Claude in Chrome is a browser-based agent that operates directly inside Google Chrome. It can navigate websites, read page content, fill information, interact with web-based systems, and complete multi-step browser tasks on your behalf.
What it does
You describe what you want done on the web and Claude does it. It opens pages, reads content, extracts data, moves through workflows, and reports back with what it found or what it completed. It sees the web the way you do — rendered pages, not just raw code.
How to use it — Step by step
- Install the Claude in Chrome extension from the Chrome Web Store
- Click the Claude icon in your browser toolbar to open the side panel
- Describe the task: "Go to this URL and extract the key figures from the table on the page"
- For multi-step tasks, describe the full flow: "Search for X, open the first three results, and summarise what each says about Y"
- Always review before Claude takes any irreversible action — submitting forms or clicking confirm buttons requires your explicit approval

Operations
Your facilities vendor publishes delivery updates on a web portal with no API. Ask Claude in Chrome: "Go to the vendor portal, navigate to the delivery schedule, and tell me the status of all pending deliveries for Raffles Singapore." Claude reads the live page and brings back exactly what you need.
Finance
"Visit the admissions pages of three competing private colleges in Singapore and extract their published tuition fees for design programmes." Claude navigates each site and returns a structured comparison — a 30-minute manual task completed in 2 minutes.
HR
"Search LinkedIn Jobs for active HR Manager postings in Singapore from the last 14 days. Extract the job titles, companies, and listed salary ranges." Claude browses live results and compiles the data — a real-time market view without manually scrolling through listings.
▶ YOUR TASK
Install the Claude in Chrome extension, then navigate to any webpage that contains information you regularly retrieve manually — a vendor portal, a public registry, a competitor's pricing page. Ask Claude to extract that specific information and time how long it takes compared to your usual method.
“If you do it in a browser and it follows a repeatable pattern, Claude in Chrome can do it for you. Best for research-heavy browsing, multi-step web tasks, and extracting information from pages that cannot be reached through a direct connector.”
